(WRGB) — An 18-year-old man from Plainview is in custody after reportedly stealing a marked New York State Police patrol car from a repair shop in Delaware County early Wednesday morning.
According to New York State Police, the incident began around 5:00 a.m. on November 5, when troopers from SP Oneonta were notified of a burglary at Accurate Auto and Truck Repair LLC in the town of Davenport. Investigators say a State Police patrol car undergoing maintenance at the shop was taken from the property. Troopers confirmed that no weapons were inside the car at the time of the theft.
About an hour later, around 6:00 a.m., troopers located the stolen car on I-90 in the town of Schodack, Rensselaer County. The 18-year-old was found inside and taken into custody without incident.
The individual was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and charged with, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, Class D felony.
He was later turned over to investigators from Troop C, who additionally charged him with, 3rd degree Burglary, Class D felony, and 3rd degree grand Larceny, Class D felony.
New York State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
The incident prompted a multi-county response from Troop C and Troop G after the car was first reported missing in Delaware County and later found in Rensselaer County.
