SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The new Toyota 4Runner Challenges its own legend.
With the latest 4Runner SUV, Toyota is in the enviably awkward position of competing with its own legend. The 4Runner is one of the most universally acclaimed vehicles for tough duty and super long-term reliability. Bottom line: 4Runner owners are rabidly loyal to their rigs and will drive the wheels off them.
The hardest part of cashing in on the customer loyalty of this truck is to get owners to part with the one they’ve been driving for 20 years.
Another point of contention for some buyers is the switch from a 270-horsepower V6 to a 278-horsepower turbo 4 cylinder. Moreover, the hybrid I-Force MAX with 326 horsepower seems to turn the page on traditional big muscle gas-powered engines.
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is an all-new, redesigned SUV sharing a platform with the new Tacoma mid-sized pickup. It comes with two new, more powerful engine options: a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a hybrid version, both offering increased horsepower and torque compared to the previous generation. The 4Runner also boasts enhanced technology, improved off-road capabilities, and a starting price of around $40,000.
Key Features and Changes:
Off-Road: TRD Pro and Trail hunter trims offer enhanced off-road capabilities, including features like multi-terrain select, crawl control, and a locking rear differential.
