There are many sedans still being sold in the United States, but few from American automakers.
Since the general public is so infatuated with crossovers, SUVs and pickup trucks, sedan sales declined over the years. Most American car companies have backed away from sedans to focus on SUVs or trucks.
The word sedan is used to identify a car that has four doors and can seat at least four passengers. So a two-door car with two or four seats like a Chevrolet Corvette or a Ford Mustang don’t qualify as sedans, they are considered coupes.
Most new sedans that are for sale come from Japan, South Korea, Germany or Italy, but there are still a small number of American sedans that can be purchased new. Some foreign automakers have cars built on U.S. soil, so American-made, yes, but not American carmakers. Here are the last remaining American carmaker sedans you can buy new for the 2026 model year.
The CT4 is Cadillac’s entry level vehicle. It offers luxury and is decently sporty. You can get one for as low as $35,600. If you want to take the performance to the next level, then consider the CT4-V or CT4-V Blackwing.
Buying a luxury vehicle: What is the cheapest Cadillac you can buy in 2025?
The CT4’s big brother, the CT5 is still helping keep Cadillac’s sedan lineup afloat. It offers more interior space, cargo space and can be optioned with a V8 engine with the CT5-V Blackwing.
For those with enough money to buy everything in the Cadillac showroom, the Celestiq may catch your eye. This car starts north of $400,000 and is marketed toward an entirely different audience than the rest of the vehicles Cadillac makes. It takes the DNA the brand has been known for and cranks it up to a level to compete with the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur.
The current Dodge Charger can be purchased as a 2-door coupe or 4-door sedan. You can also choose between the fully electric Daytona EV or the Six Pack that uses an I6 hurricane engine. The new generation Charger may not have as much muscle or sound as the previous era, but it’s no slouch on performance.
Lucids haven’t been on the road for very long, but in the EV company’s short lifespan they have been making waves. The Air has a luxurious interior and is very quick, but the most intriguing thing about the car may be its range.
Their cheapest trim, the Air Pure has an estimated range of 420 miles while the Grand Touring trim is estimated to reach 512 miles. For drivers who don’t respect the speed limit, the Air Sapphire has 1,234 horsepower and can reach 0-60 in just 1.89 seconds.
Buying an electric vehicle: Is this the best time to buy a used Tesla? Study shows prices are down
The entry level Tesla offers a lot of value for its price. It currently starts at $34,490 and offers comfort and quickness with a boatload of technology. If the base Model 3 isn’t quick enough for you, then the Performance variant should be more than enough.
Still the flagship of Tesla, even though the Cybertruck may be giving it a run for its money, for the right or wrong reasons. They are larger and offer a lot more performance than the Model 3, but cost significantly more with a starting price at $94,990.
If you are interested in a sedan from an American car company, you may have to act quickly as there isn’t much variety out there.
