The new BMW iX3 is here – and with it a whole new era of Sheer Driving Pleasure. The first series-produced Neue Klasse model was presented at IAA Mobility in Munich. With a new design language, sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology with impressive electric range and charging rate, and the most advanced driver orientation thanks to BMW Panoramic iDrive, the BMW iX3 is a spearhead for remarkable innovations, which will shape the brand’s entire model range in the future.
The curtain has been raised on the BMW iX3. The first model in the Neue Klasse is far more than a new BMW model. The fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) heralds the start of a new era of Sheer Driving pleasure and is making it possible to experience this on the streets for the first time.
At the presentation at IAA Mobility in Munich, the first sight of the Neue Klasse revealed the leap forward in development it has made. Compared to its predecessor of the same name, the new BMW iX3 creates the impression that design and technology has skipped a complete vehicle generation.
The new design language of the BMW iX3 is a very modern interpretation of BMW’s original and enduring blueprint: characterful, timeless, and reduced to the essence of the brand. The interior design has an uncluttered and reduced feel, providing the ideal stage for the digital experience. The cabin is all about the clear driver focus for which BMW is renowned and comfort for all those on board.
For the BMW Group, the launch of the new BMW iX3 also represents a milestone in when it comes to electrification, digitalisation and circularity, which bring the dawn of a new era in driving pleasure to life on the streets for the first time.
This is particularly clear when looking at the performance data facilitated by the sixth generation of the BMW eDrive technology. With a range of up to 805 kilometres (WLTP) and a peak charging rate of 400 kW, the new BMW iX3 sets new standards for efficiency and long-distance capability.
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive (WLTP energy consumption combined: 17,9 – 15,1 kWh/100 km; WLTP CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km; CO₂-class: A; WLTP electric range: 679-805km) is powered by two electric motors. Together, they generate an output of 345 kW/469 hp and a maximum torque of 645 Nm. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 210 km/h.
The Neue Klasse also boasts an impressive charging experience. At an 800V direct current (DC) rapid charging station, users can add up to 372 kilometres of range to the new BMW iX3 50x Drive in just ten minutes.
Another factor behind these values is the new electronics and software architecture in the BMW iX3. Four superbrain high-performance computers make the first Neue Klasse model more intelligent and better equipped for the future than ever. The “Heart of Joy” drivetrain and driving dynamics management technology enables unmatched handling dynamism and precision, while the latest systems for automated driving optimise symbiotic human-vehicle interaction.
The recharged range after 10 minutes of High-Power-Charging was determined according to ISO12906 in the WLTP cycle. This and the charging performance depend on the car equipment, charging status and condition of the battery, battery temperature, individual driving profile, use of additional consumers, ambient temperature, and the charging capacity at the charging station.
This is particularly noticeable when you take your place in the driver’s seat of the new BMW iX3. Here, the new BMW Panoramic iDrive elevates operation and driver focus for which the brand is renowned to a new level. With its balanced combination between digital functions and physical elements, the revolutionary display and control/operation concept facilitates intuitive operation according to BMW’s fabled “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” principle.
Even the production of the BMW iX3 is forward-looking. The Plant Debrecen operates without fossil fuels under normal operating conditions. By utilizing secondary materials, renewable energy, and through product and process innovations, CO₂e emissions in the supply chain have been reduced by 35 per cent during product development.
Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW AG Oliver Zipse put it in a nutshell: “The Neue Klasse is our biggest future-focused project and marks a huge leap forward in terms of technologies, driving experience, and design. Practically everything about it is new, yet it is also more BMW than ever. Our entire product range will benefit from the innovations of the Neue Klasse – regardless of the drive technology.”
As the spearhead of the Neue Klasse, the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive is the first model to offer the latest design and technology innovations, which will shape the brand’s entire model range moving forwards. The technologies of the Neue Klasse will be incorporated into a total of 40 new models and model updates between now and 2027.
