ISLAND CITY — Union County has a new rent-a-car business.
Married couple Kenny and Kayla Forsythe established The Other Guys Rent A Car at 10401 S. Walton Road in Island City.
“Our grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held sometime this spring in warmer weather,” Kenny Forsythe said. “We will announce more details on our Facebook page and website when the time comes.”
Kenny Forsythe has eight years of experience in the car rental business. He was formerly one of three partners in The Other Guys Auto Sales in Island City. The dealership offered vehicle rentals.
After nine and a half years with The Other Guys Auto Sales, Kenny Forsythe bought out his partners’ share of the car rental operation. In September, he and his wife registered their new business name, The Other Guys Rent A Car, and in December they purchased the 2½ acre property with a shop on Walton Road from Dan and Moneta Woollard.
The Forsythes set up their business office in the large shop, but with extra unused space, they are hoping to lease out the extra shop space to another business.
“Now that we’re not selling cars or have a repair shop, we can focus on the rental aspect and make it the best customer experience for renting cars in the area.” Kenny Forsythe said.
The Other Guys Rent A Car is bringing a solid customer base to the new location, including many regular and repeat customers, and businesses such as local insurance companies.
“The rental car business is pretty competitive,” Kenny Forsythe said. “Other dealerships have rentals, but no one else specializes in it like we are.”
Most of The Other Guys’ fleet of rentals are less than two years old, so these vehicles don’t require a lot of service maintenance other than oil changes and routine checks. All the rental vehicles are for sale, too.
“We’re not a franchise, so we’re able to diversify our fleet and offer cars, Sienna vans, SUVs, hybrid Ford pickups, Honda, Kia and Chevy vehicles,” he said.
The Other Guys Rent A car prices start at $59.95 a day for an economy rental with unlimited miles, he said. From there, the prices go up according to the size and capability of the vehicle.
“We recommend that customers call one week in advance to book a rental vehicle,” Kenny Forsythe said.
The Other Guys Rent A Car is designing a new website platform at www.rentacarlg.com where customers can book rentals, check out and bring back vehicles online. The business also will offer weekend and after-hours pickup and drop-off.
