Here’s something for the deep-pocketed enthusiasts longing for the hypercars of decades past.
Capricorn Group has unveiled an all-new speed machine called the 01 Zagato in the lead up to this weekend’s Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium. The vehicle features a Le Mans-style chassis, a potent V-8, and, perhaps best of all, a manual gearbox.

The car’s look, as its name may have given away, comes courtesy of legendary Italian design studio, Zagato. The exterior is somewhat restrained as far as modern-day hypercars go, mixing smooth lines with sharp angles for a decidedly classics-inspired feel. The front and rear ends call to mind the first-generation Ford GT, while its profile seems to have taken some cues from Koenigsegg’s distinctive design language. It does feature one trademark Zagato flourish, though—a double bubble roof, which can be seen on almost all the shop’s best designs. It’s the studio’s first hypercar, according to Top Gear, and we definitely wouldn’t mind seeing more.
Attractive as the 01 Zagato may be, the real selling point here is the vehicle’s mechanical features. In addition to being built upon a motorsports-spec, carbon-weave chassis, the vehicle is powered by a Ford-sourced V-8. The eight-cylinder mill has a 5.2-liter displacement and is equipped with a supercharger, thanks to which it makes 900 hp, 738 ft lbs of torque, and has revs all the way to 9,000 rpm. All that sounds great, right? Well, it’s also connected to a five-speed, open-gated manual gearbox.
Combine all that might with the car’s lightweight construction, and you have yourself a car that can really move. Capricorn says the 01 Zagato will rocket from zero to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Its top speed isn’t too shabby either, with the company claiming the vehicle will be able to reach 224 mph, which would make it one of the fastest cars in the world once it goes into production.
It’s one thing to announce a hypercar; it’s another to actually build it. But Capricorn is adamant that the 01 Zagato is on the way. The company has announced plans to produce 19 examples by hand in Germany. The cost is listed at €2.95 million, or $3.4 million, before taxes and fees.
