A TOURIST has reportedly died and a Brit woman is in hospital after a car ploughed into a crowd in Ibiza.
An Irishman has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after three young holidaymakers were hit by a Jeep early this morning.
Shocked witnesses said the Jeep Wrangler SUV left the road and careered onto the pavement at around 11.15am.
It crashed into the three young women and knocked a lamppost down on Carrer des Molí – opposite the popular Playa des Pouet beach.
The motor came to a standstill on the pavement just a few feet away from a pedestrian crossing.
The 23-year-old Brit was rushed to Can Misses Hospital Emergency Department around 90 minutes after she was first hit.
She is said to now be in a stable condition and conscious.
The other two young women were transferred to the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic.
According to eyewitnesses, both girls appeared to be in serious condition as they were treated on the ground.
One of them is now said to have died in hospital from her injuries, according to Diario de Ibiza.
The other remains in a critical condition.
An Irishman, aged around 30, has been arrested on suspicion of causing the deadly crash, town hall chiefs in the municipality of San Jose confirmed.
Police allege he consumed nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas, moments before the accident as he failed a drugs test at the scene.
A spokesperson for San Jose Town Hall said: "San Jose Local Police today arrested an Irish driver after he hit three people in the Es Pueto area, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries.
"The detainee was accused of reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs, manslaughter due to gross negligence and serious injury due to gross negligence.
"Initial investigations revealed evidence of nitrous oxide consumption moments before the accident.
"In the coming hours, data will be extracted from the vehicle's control unit, which will provide quantitative information about the driving at the time of the incident."
Dramatic pictures shared on local media shows crowds of people at the scene after the women were smashed into.
Shortly after, several police cars and three ambulances arrived before transporting the injured trio to hospital.
Officers closed traffic on the street as they interviewed numerous witnesses to clarify the details of the accident.
It comes just days after two Brit holidaymakers were also rushed to intensive care after being run over in Ibiza.
Mum-of-three Ebony Cordingley, 26, and her mum-of-two friend Lauren Holmes, 27, were rushed to separate hospitals following the incident.
The pair, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, were hit by a Toyota Corolla just before 2am on Tuesday morning.
Commenting on the victims' conditions at the time, a spokesman for the Civil Guard said: "Both are British and both are serious.
"They were pedestrians who were run over by a 24-year Spaniard at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla. One is 26 and the other is 27.
"The incident happened at 1.50am on the El-600 road between Ibiza and San Antonio in the municipality of San Antonio."
