Toyota is preparing to support Apple Car Key, according to a discovery tied to Apple’s internal systems. If this rolls out publicly, you will be able to use your iPhone or Apple Watch as a digital car key for select Toyota vehicles.
The update does not confirm a launch date or supported models. Still, it signals that work is underway behind the scenes.
Aaron Perris discovered the change while reviewing Apple’s backend systems.
He wrote on X, “Apple’s backend has been updated to include Toyota in the list of car companies that support Apple Car Key.” That update places Toyota alongside automakers that already support the feature. For now, Toyota has not made any public announcement.
You should not expect instant availability. Toyota has not confirmed which cars will support Apple Car Key or whether existing models will get it through a software update. The company could limit support to new vehicles instead.
Until Toyota speaks officially, you should treat this as an early signal rather than a confirmed rollout.
Toyota’s inclusion in Apple’s backend points to active development. Still, nothing changes for you today. You will need to wait for Toyota to confirm supported models, regions, and timing.
Once Toyota makes it official, Apple Car Key could become another everyday feature that replaces a physical key in your pocket.
