Toyota sold approximately 14,000 cars in the Hungarian new car market by the end of October this year, and its sales could reach 17,000 by the end of the year, meaning it is expected to maintain its leading position among brands. Next year, it will support the spread of new energy vehicles on European roads with a range of electric and hybrid models.
As Toyota Central Europe confirms, the world’s leading car brand sold 13,933 new cars in the Hungarian new passenger car and light commercial vehicle category between January and October, giving the Japanese car brand, selling around 75 percent partially or fully electrified cars in Hungary, a market share of 11.1 percent.
The importer says the brand achieved a market share of 10.9 percent in the passenger car segment with sales of 11,590 new cars, while it currently ranks second among light commercial vehicles with sales of 2,333 new cars and a market share of 12.2 percent.
The transformation of the drive mix continued in Hungary this year: in the sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, the proportion of gasoline-powered cars fell from 30 percent to 24 percent, while those using diesel fuel remained at 12 percent, the company said. Meanwhile, the share of mild hybrid vehicles (MHEV) increased from 31% to 36%, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) remained at 15%, plug-in hybrids (PHEV) also remained unchanged at 5%, while fully electric vehicles (BEV) rose from 7% to 8%.
The importer pointed out that in addition to maintaining its market-leading position, its goal was to increase BEV and PHEV sales. This year, it was mainly achieved through model updates, but in 2026, the model range will be drastically renewed with the arrival of eight new Toyota models, including self-charging hybrids and electric models.
In Hungary, the proportion of purely electric vehicles in the overall passenger car market varies across different segments, with the highest proportion in the D-SUV category, where BEVs had already reached 21% by October, 12% in the mid-range and upper-mid-range categories, and 8% in B-SUV sales, for example. With its new models, Toyota is primarily strengthening its product range in these segments.
