A new Japanese TV commercial offers the clearest look yet at the upcoming GR GT, the spiritual successor to the Lexus LFA
Toyota Gazoo Racing is preparing to unveil what will be its first modern supercar, though technically Toyota’s second ever if you count the original 2000GT from the 1960s, on December 5.
Positioned as a spiritual successor to the Lexus LFA, the upcoming V8-powered flagship was teased in a brief Japanese television segment, which also framed it as part of a lineage that includes both the LFA and the original 2000GT.

Surprisingly, the clip hasn’t been released on Toyota GR’s official channels. So far, it’s only aired on local TV. In it, the new supercar and the LFA are shown overtaking the 2000GT on an oval circuit, suggesting a symbolic passing of the torch.
The same trio of supercars recently appeared on a large display at Fuji Speedway during an event in October, presented beneath the slogan “The Soul Lives On”, a phrase that ironically but entirely coincidentally, came out the same day news broke that the Kia Soul was being discontinued.
What Will It Be Called?
The latest teaser, shared by Lexus on Instagram, offers a closer look at the design, which aligns with earlier spy photos. The license plate reads “GR GT,” pointing toward a name derived from the GR GT3 concept shown back in 2022, though now streamlined into a more road-ready form.
The model picks up several styling cues from the Lexus LFA, notably the hood vents and high-mounted side intakes. Its front end features sharp LED headlights similar to those on the Toyota GR86 coupe, a narrow grille, sizable bumper inlets, and a long, contoured hood that reinforces its low-slung profile.
Around back, the design features wide-set LED taillights integrated into oversized outlets, another element drawn from the original concept. The production model’s exhaust outlets aren’t visible in the teaser, but spy shots suggest they’ll be tucked into the rear diffuser.
The race version, by contrast, appears to stick with side-exit exhausts. Also visible are coupe-style rear glass, pronounced rear fenders, and a built-in ducktail spoiler, which will be accompanied by a fixed wing on the racing variant.
First Look Inside
Toyota first offered a look inside the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past June. The interior blends red leather with Alcantara trim and aluminum accents, creating a sharp, performance-oriented space.

Two deep carbon-fiber bucket seats dominate the cabin, which also features a wide center console housing a touchscreen and a row of physical buttons or switches.
A New Twin-Turbo V8
Under the hood, Toyota has confirmed a new twin-turbo V8 will power the GR GT. It won’t have the high-revving scream of the LFA’s naturally aspirated V10, but it will reportedly be part of a high-output self-charging hybrid system.
Early reports suggest the V8 could make upwards of 800 horsepower, sharing some architecture with Toyota’s upcoming turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
Full details will arrive on Friday, December 5. While Toyota hasn’t provided information on market availability just yet, a recent teaser strongly hints that North America is part of the plan.
This new supercar will sit at the top of Toyota’s Gazoo Racing lineup, above the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR86, GR Supra, and the expected GR Celica.
