At 3:59 p.m., troopers responded to the New Jersey Turnpike after a Peterbilt tractor-trailer changed lanes into the left shoulder to avoid a traffic collision, Jeffrey Lebron a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
The lane change caused the driver to lose directional control of the vehicle and struck a Toyota SUV, Lebron said. After the initial crash, the Peterbilt then continued forward and jackknifed, Lebron said.
The Peterbilt then struck nine more vehicles that were in traffic, including: a Lexus SUV, a GMC pick-up truck, a Mitsubishi passenger vehicle, a Volvo passenger vehicle, a BMW passenger vehicle, a Toyota SUV, a BMW SUV, and a Chevrolet passenger vehicle, Lebron said.
Six minor injuries were reported and they were transported to a nearby hospital, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
