Two young people killed in a devastating road crash in Ireland along with a Scottish woman at the weekend had only just returned from a holiday in Dubai.
Teacher Chloe McGee, 23, from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, and her boyfriend Alan McCluskey, 23, from Drumconrath, Co Meath, were among five friends who lost their lives on Saturday evening when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser on the L3168 in Co. Louth.
The other victims were Chloe Hipson, 21, from Lanarkshire, Dylan Commins, 23, from Drumconrath, and Shay Duffy, 21, from Carrickmacross. A sixth man who was also in the Golf survived but is being treated in hospital for serious, though not life-threatening injuries.
The two people travelling in the Land Cruiser were also hospitalised but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
It has since emerged that school teacher Chloe McGee and Alan McCluskey were in a relationship. Speaking on Morning Ireland on Monday, local Sinn Féin councillor Michael Gallagher, who is also from Drumconrath, said he knew some of the families affected.
Cllr Gallagher said the fact the pair were a couple would "add to the tragedy" for both families.
"It does add to the tragedy and Chloe was also well known of the community," said Cllr Gallagher. "Alan was a very hardworking young lad. He worked on the father's farm and he was involved with the father in the fencing business as well. And so was Dylan was a mechanic in his father's carriage."
He said he attended a vigil led by the local priest on Sunday evening.
"We were in the church where again it was packed to capacity – it was a lot of young people.
"The people are stunned, saddened, and just don't know where to go from there and there's going to be few really dark days ahead."
Chloe Hispon's family have paid tribute to a "beautiful soul" today following the crash.
Mum Toni Hipson led the tributes by changing her profile picture on Facebook to an image of her daughter.
Her cousin Elizabeth Elliot said the family have been left "broken" by the news. Speaking to the Record, she said: "Chloe was a beautiful, smart soul and did life right.
"She was loved by so many and this has left the biggest dent in the family with her gaining her wings so early.
"She will be with her granda Billy Hipson in heaven now. So heartbroken. Your mum and dad and brothers gave you the best life there is and that’s how you were such an angel.
"We are all here to support the Hipson’s in this cruel sad time. Goodnight Chloe. Rest in peace now. We are all heartbroken for you. Everyone is so broken."
Her aunt Chantelle Hipson said: "Don’t have the words. I will reply to everyone at some point. World has lost a bloody gem of a girl. Heart's breaking x. I’m grateful and honoured to be your Aunty Beautiful x."
Another auntie, Marie Mcstravock, added: "Devastated writing this post. Chloe, you gained your angel wings. So proud to call you my niece. Forever 21."
Chloe was pictured celebrating her 21st birthday at a party just two months ago. It's understood she was a second year student at the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) where she was studying to become a quantity surveyor. She is believed to have moved to Ireland to work for a construction firm after graduating from South Lanarkshire College.
Meanwhile, Gardaí in Dundalk are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fatal collision.
A Garda spokesperson said the scene had been examined by forensic investigators, with local diversions remaining in place to allow further searches on Monday.
