Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the fatal collision. (ABC News)
Two drivers have been killed in a head-on collision, north-west of Melbourne this morning, involving a car police allege was stolen.
Police say officers who had intercepted a vehicle at Toolern Vale saw a Holden Cruise speeding along Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road.
The Holden Cruise then collided head-on with another car travelling in the opposite direction about 9:50am, killing both drivers.
Neither have been formally identified.
Police allege the Holden Cruise was stolen from Werribee South sometime after 4:30pm on Saturday.
A passenger travelling in that vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the fatal incident.
The investigation will be overseen by the Victoria Police Professional Standards Command because the collision occurred after police contact.
