The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution obliging sellers of new passenger cars to provide buyers with official information about the car’s fuel efficiency and environmental impact. This was reported to by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
This is a requirement of Directive 1999/94/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, the EU introduced it more than 20 years ago, the agency explained. For Ukraine, this is another step towards European integration and achieving climate goals.
“Ukrainians will be able to choose a car consciously, and businesses will get clear rules that are already in place in the EU,” said the Minister Oleksiy Sobolev.
The resolution stipulates that car dealerships and other places of sale of new cars must have:
→ label with fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions data near each vehicle;
→ poster or electronic display with information on all models for sale, with data on fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions;
→ promotional materials (brochures, advertisements, etc.) with the same data;
→ access to an electronic guide with official information.
The Government has ordered the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development to develop an electronic guide with official data on fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions for all new car models. The guide, which will be posted on the Ministry’s website, will be updated annually.
The new rules will come into force nine months after the publication of the resolution.
