UPDATE: GREECE, N.Y. — The 79-year-old man who was injured after a car crashed into Carbone’s Pizzeria on North Greece Road is expected to recover. Greece Police say he had surgery for a lower-leg injury.
The driver, Robert Mear, 77, of Greece, has been charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault. He is to appear in Greece Town Court.
Police said a 79-year-old man was inside the pizzeria when the crash happened. North Greece firefighters at the scene applied a tourniquet, and the man was taken to the hospital. Mear, the driver, was safely removed from the vehicle by fire personnel.
Police said there is an estimated $20,000 in damage to the pizzeria’s front brick wall and glass facade.
