The boxy LLVs, which have been in service since 1986, are being phased out due to poor fuel economy, a lack of air conditioning, and safety concerns.
Ironically, the LLVs’ replacement – the Oshkosh Defense Next Generation Delivery Vehicles – are currently under recall for faulty wheels.
Forty of the NGDVs are being recalled because the back wheels may fall off due to a manufacturing issue.
This includes 10 electric NGDVs and 30 gas-powered NGDVs.

The NGDVs had a controversial rollout when they were first introduced in 2024 due to their long windshield and low hood.
The recalled vehicles were manufactured between March 28 and July 16 of last year.
The manufacturer warned that the bolts holding rear wheel components can come loose, causing the wheels to fall off without warning.
Since all NGDVs are currently under warranty, Oshkosh will be providing repairs free of charge.
