Video footage has revealed the dangers of driving in today's bad weather.
Many have woken up today greeted by deep blankets of snow and hidden ice.
Storm Goretti, which began to batter much of the UK with deep flurries of snow at around 6pm last night, has created dangerous driving conditions for many this morning, with many road agencies warning to ‘only travel if necessary’.
In one video, a crashed car can be seen abandoned on Longwood Lane, Aldridge, at around 8.30am today.
Only apparent minor damage can be seen to the front of the car, as many passing cars take the grim scene as a warning to watch their own speed in the bad weather.
Near Arrow Road, Leamore, one resident said that she had tried to drive in the bad weather this morning; however, after nearly losing control, she decided to walk to the shop instead.
Emily James, aged 38, said: “The snow looks lovely, but it’s horrible to drive in.
“I already gave it a shot earlier, and you just can’t control the car. I thought, ‘forget it, I’ll walk.”
It comes as warnings about adverse road conditions flood in from road agencies from across the West Midlands, with many warning not travel unless necessary.
The AA offered advice for those who are required to drive today, urging them to ‘plan ahead’ and ‘prepare your car’.
The AA travel advice reads:
Plan ahead: Check weather and traffic updates, stick to main roads likely to be gritted, and allow extra time.
Prepare your car: Clear all windows and mirrors, check tyres and battery, and keep at least a quarter tank of fuel.
Pack essentials: Warm clothing, food, water, a torch, a phone charger, and an ice scraper.
Drive smoothly: Pull away in second gear, avoid harsh braking or acceleration, and steer gently into a skid if needed.
