Are there any affordable BMWs on the market for 2025?
German automaker BMW produces luxury cars and SUVs that are best known for their performance and plush interiors. The brand has a huge following. Fortunately for drivers, there’s an entry-level Bimmer that’s more affordable than the average new car price for 2025 — over $48,000, according to Cox Automotive.
One brand-new BMW car has a staring MSRP just under $40,000. Is it worth buying for American drivers?
The cheapest BMW car for 2025 is the 2026 BMW 228 Gran Coupe sedan. It has a starting MSRP of $39,600.
BMW’s 228 Gran Coupe is still more expensive than mainstream cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, but it comes equipped with more standard features including premium materials and tech. Although the 228 Gran Coupe is BMW’s most affordable offering, it’s far from barebones or lacking in the luxury department.

The 2026 BMW 228 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder to produce a whopping 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The environmental protection agency hasn’t released estimates for the 2026 228 Gran Coupe yet, but the 2025 2 Series achieves 26 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway.
BMW’s most affordable car for 2025 comes with plenty of standard creature comforts including leather-free perforated Veganza upholstery in the cabin and heated front sport seats. It also comes with several driver-assistance and safety features that make driving both safer and easier like rear cross-traffic alert and frontal collision mitigation.
The 2026 BMW 228 Gran Coupe competes against luxury sedans like the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 and Acura Integra. Acura’s Integra ($33,000) is the cheapest among the luxury sedans mentioned. The Audi A3 ($40,100) is slightly more expensive than BMW’s luxury sedan. The Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 is also more expensive than BMW’s model ($42,750).
BMW’s luxury sedan is more powerful than the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 and Acura Integra. The Acura Integra is the most efficient model of the four luxury sedans mentioned, earning 33 miles per gallon combined. The BMW 228 Gran Coupe outshines rivals in the performance category, but the Acura Integra is the more value-oriented model for budget-conscious drivers.
The 2026 BMW 228 Gran Coupe has “peppy powertrains” and solid interior tech, according to MotorTrend. It has “quick acceleration and sporty handling” says a vehicle review from Edmunds.
Ultimately, the 2026 BMW 228 Gran Coupe is a great way to experience the opulence and sportiness associated with the German luxury brand without having to pay an arm and a leg. Additionally, aside from an affordable starting price, the 228 Gran Coupe also boasts superior driving dynamics compared to many key rivals in its segment.
