A man has died and another is in a critical condition after a shooting in Wolverhampton.
The pair were found in a car, after shots were fired in Leicester Street in Whitmore Reans at about 03:10 BST.
One man, in his 20s, died at the scene and the other, in his 30s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remained on Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.
The force said its investigation was at an early stage and urged people to avoid the area, adding that a number of roads were closed.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said a man in a critical condition received emergency treatment from police, before paramedics took over.
"Sadly, despite efforts, nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene," a spokesperson said.
They said a second man was found in a life-threatening condition and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
On Friday evening police said they had been given extra powers to stop and search people in specific areas of Whitmore Reans, and added there would be an increased police presence in the area.
Known as Section 60 powers, it means officers can stop and search people without needing reasonable grounds. The order will last until Saturday morning.
"As always, our main focus is on keeping everyone safe," a police spokesman said.
