The accident happened near the Eskbank Roundabout on the A7
A 79-year-old woman has died after her car crashed into a lamppost next to the A7 in Midlothian.
Emergency services were called to the scene, near the Eskbank Roundabout, at about 00:15.
Police Scotland said it appeared that the beige Toyota Aygo left the road, rolled onto a grass verge and collided with a lamppost.
The woman, who was alone in the car, was found dead at the scene.
Officers have asked anybody who was travelling on the A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle road between midnight and 00:15, to get in touch.
Sgt Fraser Mitchell said: "If you have dash cam, please check the footage and pass on any images which could be relevant to our ongoing inquiries as we work to establish the full circumstances of what has happened."
