The air ambulance was called to Hemel Hempstead after two women, one aged in her 80s, were hit by a car.
Parts of Queens Square in the Adeyfield area remains cordoned off after the black Ford Focus hit the pedestrians, in their 50s and 80s respectively, at around 10.20am (September 26).
The woman in her 80s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
According to a shopkeeper, it is thought that the women had been drinking a coffee outside a business in the square when the vehicle was driven into them.
An East of England Ambulance service spokesperson said: “Two ambulances, two paramedic cars and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to Queens Square Hemel Hempstead following reports of pedestrians being injured in a road traffic collision.
“Three patients were assessed at the scene and two women with serious injuries were transported by road ambulance to Watford General Hospital.”
The driver remained at the scene and no arrests have been made, a police spokesperson has confirmed.
