An elderly woman was killed after she and another person were struck by a car in New Bedford, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, and the driver of the vehicle has been charged with drunken driving, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 18 and Coggeshall Street when a car struck two female pedestrians at the intersection, the Bristol District Attorney’s Office said.

Both women were rushed by ambulance to a local hospital. A 70-year-old woman later died, and the other woman was treated for minor injuries. Their names have not been released.
The driver of the vehicle, identified by authorities as 34-year-old Andrew Johansen, of Dartmouth, is being charged with motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence and negligence and was set to be arraigned on Friday afternoon in New Bedford District Court.
The deadly crash resulted in the temporary closure of the intersection, along with on-ramps from Route 6 west and Hillman Street, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The area has since reopened to traffic.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation by state police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office.
