Bentleys are undeniably special automobiles. These rarified cars are beautiful, powerful, luxurious and, of course, priced accordingly. Upping their uniqueness, though, a trio of very special vehicles were just delivered to Bentley Rancho Mirage, a dealer in Southern California. Each of these machines has been treated to a stunning paint finish that is unlike anything else you’re likely to see on the road.
A Continental GT coupe, a GTC drop-top and a Flying Spur sedan have each been treated to an Ombré by Mulliner finish, which is something very special. This is also the first time a paint job like this has been applied to a GTC. Mulliner is, of course, the bespoke and coachbuilding division of the boutique British brand.
But what is Ombré? Well, going far beyond even premium paint jobs, these finishes include a gradual blending of one color into another, basically a gradient, something that is almost never seen on automobiles. According to the manufacturer, this “creates a smooth transition from light to dark,” resulting in an unmistakable look.
These paint jobs are, not surprisingly, difficult and time consuming to create. Reportedly, they are applied by hand by just two specialists at the automaker’s factory in Crewe, England. Each vehicle finish takes approximately 60 hours to complete, a huge time commitment. As Bentley notes, “The skill lies in how the technicians respond to the application of the paint during this process, as each color behaves differently. The result is a finish that is both unique and flawless to the naked eye.”
Bentley showcased an Ombré paint job on a Continental GT that was proudly displayed earlier this year at The Quail, a high-end car show and a cornerstone of Monterey Car Week. The vehicle featured a stunning topaz color that gracefully faded to Windsor Blue.
Two of the three vehicles delivered to the Rancho Mirage dealership feature new Ombré finishes. If you really want to receive some attention, the Continental GTC Speed features Sunburst Gold fading to Orange Flame, though the other combination is a bit more understated: Topaz and Windsor Blue in the Continental GT Speed. As for the Flying Spur, it features the Tungsten-and-Onxy combination. These finishes were inspired by nature, unforgettable places like Monument Valley, the Painted Desert and, in the case of that four-door sedan, the night sky over Southern California.
Matching their exteriors, the cabins of these vehicles have, not surprisingly, received a similar treatment. The colors are bold but also complimentary, providing an audacious but still tasteful appearance in the case of the Continental GTC Speed.
In a media release presented by the automaker, Jason Cammisa, managing director of Bentley Rancho Mirage said, “As one of the largest dealers in the U.S., our objective is to showcase aspects of Bentley that our customers may not have experienced before.” And paint jobs like these are certainly something many motorists have never seen before.
If this unique look appeals to you, Bentleys with an Ombré by Mulliner paint should be available to order right now.
