One person is dead and two others are fighting for their lives after a serious crash in Wairoa.
Police were called to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Black St and Archilles St/State Highway 2 about 3pm today.
The intersection remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
Police said the death will be referred to the coroner.
The two others injured remain in a critical condition.
'Torrential rain and frequent lightning' had been expected in the Hastings district.
