Bury New Road was cordoned off by police on Thursday evening
A 79-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car on a road in Greater Manchester.
The pedestrian was struck on Bury New Road near Butterstile Lane and Scholes Lane in Prestwich on Thursday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
Officers were at the scene at about 21:00 GMT and the area was cordoned off while investigations were carried out.
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, a force spokesperson said.
